I have been on valtrex for a few years now and this is the only thing I have tried to prevent. I was prescribed this to help with the symptoms. Valtrex is not an antiviral medicine and so does not cure herpes, but it does prevent the herpes virus from spreading further.

I have since stopped the valtrex and am now on a regular prescription of the medication which has helped a great deal of my recovery.
